Dr. Anjan Bhattacharya has worked in the field of Pediatrics, Neonatology and Developmental Pediatrics both in India and the UK throughout the previous 30 years, 12 years of that being in the UK. He has turned a concept into a reality with his sheer dedication and rigorous effort. With his expertise, vision and intervention he incorporated Child Development Center in the corporate medical services area in Apollo Multispecialty Hospital, Kolkata consequences of which resounds now and in days to come. Nabajatak Child Development Centre is his brainchild to extend the spectrum of services and add value towards the treatment of the children in need.

The Child Development Centre of Apollo Gleneagles Hospital (CDC, AGH), India’s first Child Development Centre in corporate healthcare set up has become a reality with Dr. Anjan Bhattacharya’s sheer determination. This is a unique service development in Indian scenario, the impact of which now reverberates throughout the nation with positive impact for children with EBD [Educational/Emotional, Behavioral and Developmental problems, which constitute 1 in 4 to 1 in 6 children throughout the globe*. His pioneering sprits have broken through the traditional hurdles in this field of science, setting international standards as benchmarks in India in this topic.

This was recognized internationally by the WHO (World Health Organization) whereupon he participated in the collaborative globally pioneering research of WHO on core standard setting of ICF (International Classification on Functioning) in children, using Cerebral Palsy (CP) as its pioneering model**. He followed this up with organizing International Training in India in December 2013 and a globally pioneering validation study is presented in EACD (European Academy of Childhood Disability) annual conference in Stockholm in June 2016. Dr. Bhattacharya brings this standard in his Indian Centre at CDC, AGH, Kolkata. Three separate poster presentations co-authored by him on the topic was presented in 2017 EACD annual conference in Amsterdam, 6 in Tbilisi, Georgia in 2018, a whooping 12 in Paris in 2019 amidst steep international competition, contributing to the largest Indian academic presence in the history of this European body. Now, 10 posters co-authored by him, has again being presented for the upcoming EACD annual conference in Poznan, Polland in November 2020 along with 2 more prestigious Oral Presentations, taking the tally back to 12 again Recently, he led a collaborative multicentric international study with Queensland University, Australia on Community Based Early Detection using GM tool with 98% accuracy by 3 months of postnatal age and effectivity of Community Based Early Intervention in CP, called LEAP-CP Study.

Dr. Anjan Bhattacharya has worked in Newham University Hospial and Newham Primary Care Trust, London as a Developmental Paediatrician. He worked for 12 years in the UK in Paediatrics.He has skills in assessing children’s mental development using Griffiths tool and Bayleys III Scale for Infants and Toddlers. He uses the Gold Standard diagnostic evaluation of children with Autism Diagnostic Observation Schedule [ADOS-2] and Autism Diagnostic Interview – Revised [ADI – R] techniques. His ADOS skills are recently updated, where he led a team of five (including himself) to be trained in the latest ADOS2, which can diagnose Autism, post infancy, from Oxford, UK by Dr. Carol Stott.

He is a Royal College RCPCH, UK examiner for MRCPCH UK and DCH, UK examinations. He has been the Host Examiner for MRCPCH, UK Final Examinations for the Royal College of Paediatrics and Child Health, UK. He is also an Honorary Affiliate Tutor and Course Co-ordinator of Sydney Child Health Program [Formerly DCH/IPPC Course] of Sydney University Australia.He is ex-head of the Post Graduate DNB Program of AGH, Kolkata and DNB Centre Appraiser of NBE, New Delhi. He worked as an international medical expert in a medicolegal case involving childhood disability in Singapore. He has written text book chapters on the topic in India. He was an office bearer of three chapters of Indian Academy of Pediatrics, nationally and WBAP in the state.

His pioneering Kolkata Development Model is currently gaining momentum as one of the most effective universal solution for Early Detection and Early Intervention Practice Standards globally! In London Pediatric Conference, he refines the model in his keynote address. His EACD poster co-authored with head of Rare Diseases, Europe, Dr. Liesbeth Siderius included his Kolkata Developmental Model in her work.

Dr. Anjan Bhattacharya was invited as a guest lecturer for 2018 annual conference for RCPCH, UK (a rare honour) as the sole invited guest lecturer from India to this prestigious academic conference to talk about “Development Paediatrics in the 21st Century” sharing podium with the then and the current Presidents of the Royal College.

He was also a keynote address speaker in the Paris International Conference in 2018 and in London in 2019, where he led a team of five from his team as speakers from India.
